All the participating teams in the T20 World Cup 2022 are in their final round of preparations as only one day to go to the tournament. The first match of the multinational level tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Namibia on October 16 at GMHBA Stadium in South Geelong.

Though India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan at Melbourne Stadium, So, all eyes are on India’s optimal playing XI.

If we observe India’s pre-announced squad for T20 World in Australia, we find that there aren’t many left-handed pitchers on the club, however, the club is loaded with well-known players and strong hitters.

India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, R Pant (WK), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, YuzvendraChahal,  Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh

Former India left-handed batter Suresh Raina shows his concerns about India’s positions regarding the above.

Since Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out during the Asia Cup due to injury, Rishabh Pant-the only left-handed batter is remaining in the squad and he will be the possibility for left-handed pitchers. However, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper batter is under form at the time.

Raina, who was a part of the 2011 World Cup champion squad, believes that a spot needs to be made for Rishabh Pant despite his recent form.

Raina Stated, “Rishabh Pant can target spinners in the middle overs.”

“Bowlers will have a lot of edge. They know which batters are capable.

“ We need to have one left-hander in the middle-order then you can really change the momentum because if you see KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Surya, I don’t think Rishabh ka jagah ban rahahai (Rishabh Pant won’t be an automatic choice)

“But we need to somehow bring him for the middle overs. Because some of the spinners, you need to target them,” Raina continued.

“In the bigger ground, you need to bat with intent where you can dominate. Australia has a batting till No. 10. England also knows how to play white-ball cricket. Rohit and Surya have got great intent.

“I think Virat Kohli will be the key because he knows how to finish. He has been batting really well. I hope if he bats for 20 overs, we will win all the matches,” the 35-year-old added.

It was expected that India will face a little bit of difficulty in bowling as pace spearhead Jaspreet Bumrah has been ruled out due to a serious back injury two weeks ago, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is running under pressure due to bad form. However, the BCCI has tried to fill the damages by naming fast bowler Mohammad Shami in the squad in place of Bumrah. Earlier, Shami was named in the Indian squad as a standby player.
