Top team who win the IPL trophy most of the time: Indian Premier League is founded by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) in 2007. It is contested by the eight teams from the eight different cities in India. The league is organized between the March and May of every year. The teams are:

  • Chennai Super Kings
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Kolkata Night Riders
  • Mumbai Indians
  • Punjab Kings
  • Rajasthan Royals
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad

Format of IPL

IPL is the most prestigious and exciting tournament domestically played by the cricketers. It has a format of 20 overs followed by qualifier 1, qualifier 2, and eliminators concept. In the first-round robin format, all the teams play twice with each other. In the end, only the top four teams get qualify for the playoff. In the first match the top two teams from the league phase play against each other. Here, the winner makes a place in the IPL final and the loser gets another opportunity to qualify for the IPL final by playing the second Qualifying match.

The winner of the second Qualifying match goes straight to the finals. Then the final match gets started between the winner of the first Qualifying match and the winner of the second qualifying match. In the final match, the winner is declared the Indian Premier League Champions.

Who has won the IPL the most times?

The 2020 season of IPL gets interrupted due to the Covid-19 situation and planning to hold at the United Arab Emirates. From 2007 to 2019, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL trophy five times. The team is credited with the most success in IPL.

Mumbai Indians is a cricket franchise owned by Mukesh and Nita Ambani with Reliance Industries. The team is led by Rohit Sharma and guided by the coaches Mahela Jayawardene and Shane Bond. 

As per the statistics, in 2017, Mumbai Indians was the first franchise that crossed the $100 million mark in IPL franchises. A brand value of 809 crores was estimated in 2019. 

In 2011 Mumbai Indians beats Royal Challengers Banglore by 31 runs. In 2013, the Mumbai Indians defeated the Super Kings by 23 runs. Then the team was forced to give up Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs. In 2015, Mumbai Indians won the tournament by defeating Chennai Superkings by 41 runs in the final match. In 2017, Mumbai Indians did a hattrick of winning the title the third time. In November 2020, The honor of winning the competition for the fifth time was earned by Mumbai Indians.
