Roger Binny, full name as “Roger Michael Humphrey Binny”,the father and father-in-law of Stuart Binny and Mayanti Langer, respectively has been named to be the new president of the BCCI.
While speaking to the Times of India, he expressed his shock to be named for the top most position where he also added, that it took him the whole night to process the news. For those who don’t know, Roger Binny is someone who was part of the 1983’s world cup and the top wicket taker.
By becoming the newly elected president of the BCCI, Binny replaced Saurav Ganguly from the top seat. He said that was aware about his name being taken into consideration but didn’t expect it to be for the top most position.
“I was shocked when I was asked to file the nomination. I did expect to be in contention for some post, but that wasn’t for the top job. When I was told that I would be the president, it took a whole night for it to sink in,”
However, he also stressed upon other matters like the poor state in which many of the stadiums are lying and needs to be looked upon and also about the series of injuries issues that BCCI is facing in their cricketers.
Speaking of injuries, we remember it was Ravi Shastri who backed this theory while highlighting the role of the president (To whomever it may be) twice during his interview. And raised the above topics which Binny affirmed to take notice of during his press conference. Now we are not sure whether these topics were the outcome of what Ravi Shastri said, or something Binny already knew about.
The program where Ravi Shastri spoke was the program organized by Mumbai Press Club (Meet the Media Program), looks completely justified.
His only question is why injuries are so frequent? But he also at the same time feels that Players should be given rest, looking at the given scenarios. Look at what he said,
“With the volume of cricket that exists today, it’s extremely important that you get the balance right of how much a player plays. When should he be rested? And there, a president can play a big role. Tomorrow, if a cricketer, for the sake of playing for India, needs to be rested in the IPL for a certain number of games, so be it. The Board president has to sit with the franchise and explain that he’s extremely important for India first, and then the franchise,”
On the growing number of injuries, Ravi said,
“It was the most frustrating thing for me as (India coach) when you lose key players to injuries”
So, you see and read between the lines of what Ravi Shastri said. Although, he didn’t took direct name but his message was clear to whomever the president is going to be, these are some of the important issues to be addressed.
And what we see, Roger Binny standing the grounds for the same.
Let’s wait and watch!!
