The Absence of Jasprit Bumrah Makes a Significant Difference: Hardik Pandya Post-Mohali T20I Defeat

Hardik Pandya, the star player of the 1st T20 match against Australia, has something to say. At the post-match conference, Hardik revealed how different it is to not have Bumrah in the team, because his recovery also is crucial. Look exactly at what he said,

“Without a doubt, it is much different without Jasprit. He is recovering from an injury;therefore, it is crucial that he has enough time to sort of recover without putting too much strain on himself “

Who can understand better the pain of recovering than Hardik himself, as well know, that how during a match with Pakistan in 2018, he got seriously injured in his back, but straight after around 1-year of rest and much speculations, he bounced back stronger by first getting the captaincy of the new IPL team, Gujarat Titans and then leading the same team towards victory.

What was then, there was no looking back from Hardik Pandya ever again. He leaped and bounced back and forth and reached a level, which he himself explains as to be a lot of success. Look at what he said about it.

“I have recently had a lot of success, but for me, what is more crucial is how I can improve even on my good days. I do not make a big deal about my efforts, whether they are successful or unsuccessful, given the type of job I have had”

But he also added by appreciating himself saying,

“I played well today. I need to think ahead because they might target me in the next game”

Coming back to the point of missing Jasprit, for some it wasn’t the case, why? Because, if you look at Australia’s side, the team didn’t have their four important players with the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, and Mitchell Starc but still somehow managed to win their first game.

The actual reason behind India’s defeat can be seen in the form of their misfields that took place in the first match.

  • First came in the form of Cameron Green by Axar Patel, who dropped a simple catch near the deep square area which later proved to be fatal, because Cameron Green was top scorer of his team with 61 runs off 30 balls.
  • Second catch that was dropped, came in the form of Steve Smith and the fielder for this fatal mistake was none other than, KL Rahul (55 off 35) who dropped this crucial catch at the deep, which indeed was an easy catch.
  • Third, came in the form of Matthew Wade, dropped by the bowler Harshal Patel itself, which indeed proved out to be fatal again, which eventually led Wade to score 45 being not out.

So, you see what was the real issue here, it probably can be the pressure or lack of concentration as the root problem. But because crucial catches were not taken, India lost their first match. Suppose, if this mistake could have taken place in the T20 WC final match, do you feel it was a mistake to bear. Absolutely NO. Hilariously, all three catches dropped were the match-winners for their team (Australia).

When you are playing matches like these, one needs to be attentive to every ball, bit by bit and that’s how you win the match and not vice versa.

Cameroon Green was declared the player of the match with Australia winning the game by 4 wickets and taking their first lead in the tournament. The next match against Australia will be played on 23rd September, held at the VCA stadium (Vidarbha Cricket Association). This match will be crucial for the Indians because if they lose again, they will lose the entire series.
