  • Royal Challengers will announce their new captain via a press conference on 12thMarch
  • Virat Kohli stepping down from his captaincy and Maxwell’s unavailability till April 5th has prompted RCB to make Plessis their new captain.

In a new and happening update from the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s team, Faf Du Plessis will be their new face for the captain. The RCBs will soon be announcing it through a conference on 12th March. The post has been lying vacant after Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy after IPL 2021. Glenn Maxwell was seen as a potential replacement but the RCBs looking at Maxwell’s availability unquestionably decided to go with the South African skipper.

RCB was set to announce the name on 8th March, however, indicated the 12th of this month through the official handle of Twitter.

It’s not only going to be the official announcement about the new captain but also their new jersey and announcement towards different ventures that RCB will get involved in.

The RCB franchise also said that are going to celebrate the fourteen years of the team at the Museum cross Road in church street.

Coming back to the main reason of why only Faf du Plessis and not Maxwell or Virat?

As you all know, Virat recently stepped down from his test captaincy due to his unproductive performance and facing backlash from inside and outside the team. Knowing his death, the former test skipper decided not to take on the charge for the RCB team anymore but will be playing for them as a regular senior player whereas concerns related to Glenn Maxwell, his unavailability for the first three matches of the IPL made his role doubtful to be the captain. Cricket Australia barred all centrally contracted players from participating in IPL till 5th April, which was despite not being selected for the series (white-ball) against Pakistan.

Therefore, the player who was left with the experience and the potential to lead the Royal Challengers team was the south African big hitter Faf du Plessis. The skipper was chosen due to his vast experience in all three formats of cricket which includes the world cup. The player was picked by the RCBs at INR 7 Crores after the end of the season with the Chennai Super Kings.

If we see at the other aspects involved for choosing Plessis as captain, you’ll find a scarcity of leadership roles in the team or in other words no better option than him, a fantastic opener, have ample time as he has retired from the international cricket and can focus more on the RCB team, overall availability, and having an ability to guide the team from behind the stumps makes him a potential option as the captain of the Royal Challengers team. Let’s focus on what’s going to get unveiled by the RCBs this 12th.
