Struggling to win a match in the league was not something Mumbai Indians would have thought about in the initial few days before the league started. Fans and people are surprised that what has happened to the 5-time and 4-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Incidentally, both the superstar teams are yet to make their winning starts in the league. But here we are talking about Mumbai Indians who are at the ninth position in the points table of IPL Surprising Right!!

In the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore was held at MCA Stadium in Pune. RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss but was seen electing to bowl first. When MI came to bat in the first innings, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were the first to open. Rohit Sharma (26/15), who was one of the heroes of this match, was seen playing some big shots at deep mid-wicket – deep square leg and deep point but was eventually stopped by young bowler Harshal Patel taking Rohit’s catch himself. Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 26 runs in 28 balls.

A late addition to the league, MI side Surya Kumar Yadav was seen playing some beautiful shots at deep point – deep cover smashed 68 not out off 37 balls.

RCB’s side was Anuj Rawat and the captain himself, Faf du Plessis (24/16), who played some blistering fours and sixes between long-off and deep point, but unfortunately, after a 50 partnership with Anuj Rawat, the RCB skipper was made the pavilion stands by getting caught at the long-on by Suryakumar Yadav.

The next batsman to come was none other than former captain Virat Kohli (48/36) who played his knock-hitting fours and sixes in every corner of the stadium but missed his half-century by two runs which were indeed very disappointing for him. Virat was dismissed by Jaydev Undakat through LBW. On the other hand, Anuj Rawat was directly hit on the stumps while running for the second run with Virat Kohli batting.

It was a brilliant inning from RCB that did not give the MI team any chance to overtake them and played like a champion. The only episode about which RCB went sour was the dismissal of Virat Kohli, for which the former captain also reviewed the DRS. The decision seemed to indicate that the ball simultaneously made a connection with the bat and pad which remained inconclusive, with the decision being made on the field intact.

In response to the decision taken by the on-field umpire, the RCB management posted on Twitter the recently released MCC Act saying,

“If the ball makes contact with the Striker’s person and bats Simultaneously, this shall be considered as the ball having first touched the bat”

With this win, the RCBs have reached the top fourth position which is next to RR, GT, and KKR.
