R Ashwin shares Kapil Dev’s congratulatory letter

The veteran cricketer Kapil Dev has shown his big heartedness towards the new talent in the Indian cricket team. As he is very much popular for his free, frank, and open nature and personality. Everyone has seen him guiding and appreciating the efforts of young players in the upcoming generations since long back.

R Ashwin broke the record of Test wickets of the great Kapil Dev in the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. After which Kapil Dev wrote a letter congratulating him. R Ashwin has now disclosed this letter.

Team India’s star spinner R Ashwin broke the record of the great Kapil Dev in Mohali during the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. In this match, he took the wicket of Charith Asalanka, leaving him behind the record of 434 wickets taken by Kapil in Tests.

After Kapil Dev’s retirement from cricket, this record remained in his name for many years. At the same time, during the second Test played in Bangalore, Ashwin also broke the record of 439 Test wickets held by former South African fast bowler Dane Steyn.

After the first Test, Ashwin revealed that he had received a letter and a bouquet as a congratulation from the former captain after breaking Kapil Dev’s wicket-keeping record. Ashwin shared the picture of this letter on social media.

Former India captain Kapil Dev praised R Ashwin in this letter and wrote, Congratulations! Really glad you broke my record. You have made India proud! Best wishes to you and everyone in the family.

Ashwin expressed gratitude

Earlier, Ashwin expressed happiness over becoming the second highest Test wicket-taker for India. He said, ‘I feel very humbled, 28 years ago I was cheering for Kapilpaaji with my father, when he surpassed Richard Hadlee’s record.’

Ashwin said on his official YouTube channel, ‘I never thought of exceeding his number of wickets. Because I always wanted to be a batsman, especially when I started at the age of eight, my intention was to become a batsman, at that time Sachin Tendulkar was emerging in world cricket while Kapil Dev was a brilliant striker. During this also said that he wanted to become a medium pacer on the advice of his father. It’s like an inspirational story for every cricket player.
