IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS)’ owners are unlikely to go in step with Anil Kumble as their team’s head coach in the upcoming season. According to a report, Actress Preity Zinta and Businessman Ness Wadia-landowners group are making a plan to part away with their current head coach Kumble as they have decided not to renew the former leg-spinner Kumble’s contract before next season. Kumble’s last contract with the franchise will end in upcoming September. He had become the franchise’s part in 2020.

The franchise is also reportedly keen to rope former England Captain Eoin Morgan or Australian cricket coach Trevor Bayliss in the place of Kumble.

A leading cricket website quoted,

“The Mohali team has apparently decided not to renew Anil Kumble’s three-year contract, which ends next month (September). They are already in search of candidates.”

“It is heard that their associates have approached the likes of Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and one former India coach. Eventually one of them or none of them get the posting. A Punjab Kings official said they will decide in a week’s time,” a source said as per report.

If PBKS signs a new coach then it would become the second team to sign two head coaches. Earlier, Knight Riders Group (KRG) owned franchise team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had roped Chandrakant Pandit after Brandon MacCallum, who left the team for England’s test team.

PBKS formerly Kings XI Punjab is one of those IPL franchise teams which never won the prestigious championship trophy since the inaugural of the league in 2008. They had changed their name from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2021, but their team could not perform something special. After 2014, the franchise could not make their place even in the playoff of IPL when they reached the final battle, but unfortunately, they lost the trophy.

Under Kumble’s coaching period, the franchisee team has won only 19 games out of 42 matches.
