The IPL Mega Auction is going to be held in Bengaluru which is just around the corner. Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre said that there will be a lot of competition in the auction and it is important to be prepared for all the challenges.
Recently, a mock auction was conducted by the Delhi Capitals franchise which featured some big names like Vinod Bisht, CEO of Delhi Capitals as well as Kiran Kumar Gandhi, who is the CEO, MD and Director of GMR Infrastructure Was.
Their mock auction was held by Kiran Kumar Gandhi of GMR Group along with Vinod Bisht, CEO of Delhi Capitals (interim CEO, Delhi Capital) and Mustafa Ghous, CEO of JSW Sports. Capitals Scouting and Recruitment Strategist Shyatanu Chokhani, assistant coach Praveen Amre and the head of talent search Saba Karim were present at the mock auction discussing their plans for the most awaited mega auction.
Saba Karim, who is leading the talent hunt for the Delhi Capitals team, said it is imperative to go into the IPL mega auction with complete clarity on how the playing XI should be structured and what the “key elements” should be winning side. Karim said that these four selected players are match winners and the basis of the team and they need more match winners who can fill the vacant slots.
“This mega auction is always a big challenge, especially when two new teams are there. We know that there will be a lot of competition, we know that some franchises will be having more money, and that’s when all the expertise and all the auction experience will count,”Pravin Amre
As the DC think-tank is gearing up for its preparations in full swing, Amre spoke about the experience and importance of the mock auction.
“It is done to understand the psyche of other owners, what they will go for, what they are missing, and ultimately it comes down to what we want. To be honest, what we want and how we are going to get it, is the whole purpose of doing mock auctions,”Pravin Amre added
He was further seen explaining:
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but I think it’s all about the preparation. It is so essential to have a mock auction, where every team member, who is involved in this mock auction, gets an idea of how to go about it,”
“I think this is ultimately a good lesson for us, and this is where we can suggest to owners the possibilities and challenges. Yes, we want the best player, but can we afford it? So, that’s the question comes, and ultimately as coaches, we want a balanced team,”
During the interview, Amre said many things like dynamics that cannot be predicted, he insisted on preparing for the worst by being a part of 5-6 auctions. He said that there is something like cricket where anything can happen.
The head coach Ricky Ponting will not be present in the IPL auction whereas the franchise has managed to retain some key players such as Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel with a budget of Rs 47.5 crore.
