BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly recently described the young J&K cricketer as the “outstanding face of the league”. Ganguly described the youngster as a rising star.

Saurav Ganguly praised the Umran Malik for his fast bowling consistently with 150 kmph and said,

“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching [the IPL]. Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – are doing well. Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khalil Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,”

So far, the 22-year-old cricketer, Umran Mailk playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team has caught attention of all the big shots in the cricket fraternity for his awesome speed with correct line and length which includes the likes of Sunil Gavaskar who said while speaking to Star Sports,

“Umran Malik has been very, very impressive with his speed but more than his speed, it’s his accuracy (that’s impressed). A lot of guys who bowl at that speed tend to spray the ball around but Umran bowls very few wide deliveries,”

And after performing the 5-wicket bonanza against the Gujarat Titans, Mr. Gavaskar added more saying,

“I think what was more exciting than these 5 wickets is the way Sunny (Gavaskar) was celebrating in the commentary box when he picked up his 5-wicket haul. Punching the ceiling, jumping and screaming. I think Sunny did that because how often have we seen India producing the fastest bowler in world cricket? You can see by the speeds he is delivering and the accuracy that you must be loving,”

Another legend too heaped praise on the pacer comparing him the legends of his time like the great Sir Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh. He said,

“He reminds me of my playing time when all the greats of the West Indian team were playing. Sir Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh, and Curtly Ambrose were different types of bowlers. But he reminds me a lot of Fidel Edwards. I hope he understands that many batters will not be scared of his pace when he plays for India. So, he needs to add more variation to his armory,”

Adding,

“He is a quick learner, and he asks different questions in the net sessions,”

The Sunrisers Hyderabad cricketer Glen Philip claimed he is sometimes so terrified by the player that its like nightmare he said.

“He’s absolutely rapid. Facing him in the nets is a nightmare. I’ve got my chest guard on to not get hurt. Imagine what those balls (in the game) will be feeling out there,”

There are many veterans from and out from the game of cricket who heaped tons of praises for Umran Malik and wished him huge success.
