There can be a mini version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) installed in the coming days as possibly six of the nine owners in the new South African T20 League would be Indian. A report that has been surfacing the internet on Tuesday has reported that around six IPL franchises have won bids to own a team in the new version of the South Africa T20 league, which will take place in 2023.

However, the five-time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians, owned by Mr. Mukesh Ambani had shown interest to buy the team based out of Cape town which is the main city of South Africa, same as Mumbai in India.
Whereas for the Johannesburg team, the four-time champions of the IPL team, Chennai Super Kings have shown interest. Thirdly, the Centurion based team in Pretoria, the Delhi Capitals team has shown interest whereas for the Durban team, it is the super Giants.

Kevin Pietersen was also part of the bidding process but was not successful in any concrete offer. It is thought that the former England captain had good interest, but the financial power of the mega-rich IPL owners got the better of him. There were bids from the local authorities as well, but only three other bids were successful apart from the ones that were launched by non-IPL owners.
It is expected that big-name players will likely play in the league, however Indian players are not yet assigned. Indian players generally don’t play in overseas leagues, apart from the County cricket in England. While there will be another league from UAE that will also kick start at the same time. It now remains to be seen who participates where, but the big league is all set to glitter the global stage.
