Australian cricket legend Ian Chappell has all praises for Patt Cummins as the most inspiring leader and described the captaincy of England’s Joe Root as poor. England is currently trailing 0-1 in the Ashes 2021-22 series after a 9-wicket loss to Australia in the Brisbane Test.

Former Australia captain Chappell has turned up the heat on Root by questioning his decision-making including team selection, bowling plans and his decision to bat first at the Gabba. What is the opposite definition of ‘Excellent Leadership? There is a good chance that this can be understood with the captaincy of Joe Root.

Also in the second Test in Adelaide, which is a d/n affair, England are set a target of 468 by Australia, captained by Steve Smith in the absence of Pat Cummins, who is ruled out of the match for this reason. Root is a great batsman but a bad captain. Joe Root facing criticism all over was also describe the most unlucky as well as simple because of the loss the England team faced in their first match in Adelaide.

The words from the former captain came in a very harsh way saying that the current captain like joe root was reare to find especially as a long term captain who lacks imagination. He also added by saying that a captian is lucky because the players inside the believe so.

‘At the Adelaide Oval it again showed that misfortune was chasing Root’s team. The England bowlers used to beat the bat regularly but they had little to show for their honest hard work. Joe Root, along with David Malan, has been the only England batsman to have scored half-centuries in both Tests, but the rest of the batsmen have easily fallen to the Australian bowlers.

The former captain, Ian Chappel didn’t stop here and bombarded words of arrow upon Joe Root mentioning him not at all an inspiration and miserably failing even after being in good. Ian Chappel added that after yielding 425 runs in Brisbane, the same mistake was repeated by the English team.  He again shot words at Joe root referring him as another sign of inadequacy.

Where exactly does all this tug of war begin?

All these tug of war took place after the first match between the host nation Australia and England. The opening Test in Brisbane has left the England team more vulnerable and exposed to their batting and fielding weaknesses.

The fans on took social media by storm and were confused to learn about why did Root choose to bat when the pitch could was so terrible, especially how green the Brisbane pitch looked before the disastrous first ball. One fan even said that England’s team is on the toss.

And another fan posted: ‘Don’t know why England decided to bat first on this pitch and in these conditions!! Wouldn’t have made much difference to the overall result but at least it would have kept a respectable FFS. Shaming this #TheAshes.

It has been a difficult face for the English captain since the first Test failure in Adelaide. He’s been receiving criticism not only from fans but all across cricket fraternity such Ian Chappel, the former England team captain.
