‘Joe Root can say whatever he likes’: Ponting slams ENG captain’s comments on bowlers, asks ‘what was he doing on field’ – It is a tough time for Joe Root after suffering another loss to the Aussies. The English captain is facing criticism from all sides and this time it is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Ponting slams Joe Root by asking what he is doing on the field. The remarks came after England captain Joe Root was vocal about his disappointment with the bowlers.

After England was thrashed by 275 runs in the day-night Test in Adelaide, Root insisted that the bowlers needed to pitch the ball fuller and perform more brilliantly. The former Australian captain said it was Root’s duty to see at what lengths his bowlers were bowling, rather than point fingers at the end of the match. Ponting criticized the English captain, saying that he almost fell from his seat after hearing Root’s statement. He kept saying that Root can say whatever he wants but if he can’t influence his bowlers on which line length to bowl then what is he doing on the field.

Ponting also noted that the England bowlers were pitching the ball when Root was not in the field at the start of the fourth day’s play and that Ben Stokes took over the captaincy in his absence.

“The interesting thing for me is that when Joe Root was not on the field, he bowled the entire game,” Ponting said.

"Starting on day four when they met on the field before the start of play, Stokes took over the captaincy, and that was the only time in the game that he picked up the ball."

England are trailing 2-0 in the five-match series after consecutive defeats. The third Ashes Test to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is starting from 26-30 December.

Recently, former Australian legend Ian Chappell was also seen slamming Joe Root for his poor performance. Former Australia captain Chappell turned the heat on Root by questioning his decision-making including team selection, bowling plans and his decision to bat first at the Gabba. What is the opposite definition of ‘outstanding leadership’? There is a good chance that this can be explained by the captaincy of Joe Root. Australian cricket legend Ian Chappell has praised Pat Cummins as the most inspiring leader and slammed England’s Joe Root for his captaincy.

The former captain’s words were very inconsiderate for the English player, saying that it was rare to find a captain like Root, particularly as a captain for a long period of time, who lacked imagination. He also said that a captain is lucky because the players inside believe so.

The misfortune hasn’t stopped chasing the captain even at the Adelaide Oval. Joe Root, along with David Malan, has been the only England batsman to have scored a half-century in both Tests, but the rest of the batsmen are easily caught by the Australian bowlers.

Former captain, Ian Chappell did not stop here and rained down Arrow’s words at Joe Root, saying that he is not an inspiration and has failed miserably even after being in good shape. Ian Chappell said that the England team repeated the same mistake by giving 425 runs in Brisbane. He again shot the words at Joe’s root and called them yet another sign of inadequacy.
