Chennai Super Kings have been in the spotlight since the beginning of the 15th edition of the IPL. It was shocking that Dhoni left the captaincy at the start of the match and handed over the reins of the team to Ravindra Jadeja.
RavindraJadeja is an all-rounder. So far, Chennai Super Kings have not performed as well as they should have done. Jadeja has to face many questions in this regard.
Former cricketers themselves are now questioning Jadeja’s talent and Dhoni’s decision-making ability.
The performance of the Chennai team has been very disappointing. Chennai has lost all the first four matches of the season and it is placed at 10th in the IPL standings. Former India coach Ravi Shashtri has raised some questions on this.
Questioning Chennai’s leadership, Ravi Shastri said,
“I feel that someone like Jadeja should focus on his own game. If Chennai were to think back, they wouldn’t have let go of Faf du Plessis,”
It means that Ravindra Jadeja would have played freely, without the pressure of captaincy and things could have been different for Chennai then.
Further, “T20 Time Out Hindi after CSK lost by eight wickets against SRH. Du Plessis is a match-winner, he has won the IPL with Chennai, and he has a lot of experience.”
Currently, Faf du Plessis is seen leading the Bangalore team this season. Under his leadership, Bangalore has played four matches so far. Out of them, Bangalore has won three matches. So, the team has accepted defeat in one match.
Before the IPL mega auction, Chennai had retained four players. Among them were Ravindra Jadeja, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Moin Ali, and Rituraj Gaikwad. In the IPL mega auction, there was a strong possibility that Chennai would bid on Faf du Plessis. But, the Bangalore team bought him. Faf du Plessis has done well playing for Chennai. It was a big shock for the fans that the Chennai team did not buy him. He would have made the team proud with multiple wins from the start of IPL 2022.
When Dhoni passed on the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja everyone was got surprised though the decision was not got welcomed so easily. After that from the beginning, the Chennai Super Kings lost their 4 matches in IPL 2022 and did not result well. It gave rise to criticism.
The CEO of Chennai Super Kings Mr. Kasi Vishwanathan said that
“Dhoni felt it is right time to leave captaincy and handed over to Jadeja.”
The former India all-rounder said
“If Dhoni was thinking of giving up the captaincy, then Faf should have been given the job, and Jadeja should have continued as [just] a player. He would have played freely, without the pressure of captaincy. Things could have been different for Chennai then,”
