The most glorious event and 15th season of the Indian Premier League 2022 are going to kick start from 26th March 2022. BCCI has announced the complete schedule and venue details.
The cricket fans were eagerly waiting for the day to start the tournament. Not just 3 weeks to go and the waiting period will be transformed into more and more excitement.
With the schedule of the tournament, BCCI also announced that defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opener.
The matches will be played in a different format this year. A total of 10 teams will be participating in the IPL which will be divided into two groups, A and B. It will be decided on the basis of the number of titles won and the finals played.
Group A comprises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and new entrants Lucknow Super Giants.
And Group B will have other five teams, such as Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and new entrants Gujarat Titans.
All the IPL matches set to be played in Maharashtra
BCCI confirmed that all the IPL matches will be played at four venues in Maharashtra only – three in Mumbai and one in Pune.
Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each.
Brabourne stadium in Mumbai and MCA Stadium in Pune will play hosts to 15 games each.
Maharashtra Government has also decided to allow 25% spectators for all league matches during the IPL. A decision is yet to be taken on the venue for the playoffs. The schedule for the IPL 2022 playoffs is yet to be released.
