IPL 2022: Why IPL’s most successful team is the worst performer so far this season?

The first season of IPL was started in 2008. Since that year, the tournament has gained tremendous success and become popular all over the world. It was the first time when IPL was having 8 teams playing against each other. Since then, the only team that is Mumbai Indians have been constantly winning the series.

Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in IPL to date. Till now their all performances were so engaging and outstanding that the team’s win seemed to be confirmed. All the players were played electrifyingly and their strategy implementation and aiming of goal is well focused. But somehow they have forgotten their winning formulae in the 15th season of IPL.

The team that was the most successful team in IPL, has become the worst performer in IPL 2022. The team is playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. He is trying his best to push the team to the way of success and also trying to make a place in the finals. But the picture is reverse now and the tea seems to get an early exit from the tournament as they have faced 5 consecutive defeats.

What must be the reason behind this?

Apart from Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, the team is occupied with brilliant bowlers like Jaspreet Bumrah and also has talented batsmen. Rohit Sharma has good leadership qualities and is also capable of handling the team and the pressure around as well. But in this season, due to major reshuffle of team members in the mega auction disturbed the harmony in the team.

As per the experts, the team is lacking behind two things this time in IPL 2022.

  1. The players are not able to find the rhythm.
  2. Less number of solid performers

Apart from this, MI retained their four biggest match-winners in the form of Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard, but a team needs more than four players to win consistently.

Regardless of being criticized, it is the fact that the team has the most adorable and brilliant player like Dewald Brevis and the team is blessed for having him on the team. His power-hitting performances made MI proud. The 18-year-old Brevis was awarded as Man of the match in the under-19 World Cup tournament by ICC. Unfortunately, he didn’t get any proper opportunity and support to continue his form.

The key players of the team have maintained their form and are consistently batting well.

Currently, Rohit Sharma is handling the responsibility of captaincy across all formats and is the captain of MI and one of their leading batsmen. Is the pressure coming on them? Rohit needs to fire at the top for MI to set the tone for the rest of the batting order.

In the five matches that Mumbai Indians have played so far, Rohit’s scores are 41, 10, 3, 26, and 28. His failure to convert good starts into big scores has hurt his team.

Ishan Kishan is a blazing opener bought back by Mumbai Indians in the auction for Rs 15.25 crore. The strategy of putting back most of his auction purse to buy back Ishaan was questioned by many rights after the auction. Ishan, who is one of India’s most talented young batsmen in recent times, made a stellar start to IPL 2022, scoring an unbeaten 81 against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai’s first game. He scored 54 against Rajasthan Royals, but since then he has scored 14, 26, and 3.With his opening partner and skipper Rohit not being among the runs, it is important for Ishant to deliver consistent performances. He must not be seen as weaker at any point in the future times.

Other than Ishan and Rohit Sharma, Jaspreet Bumrah and Kiron Pollard are also struggling to get more wind and perform well. To bounce back to their original form is a matter of time. SO it would be seeming difficult for the team.

Now Mumbai Indians now need a miracle to last in IPL 2022 but their senior players have to take the responsibility and perform when the team needs them the most. A place in the playoffs is still a possibility, with 9 league matches to be played. Mumbai has traditionally had a slow start, but now with the league expanding to 10 teams, the margin of error has narrowed significantly.

But if there is one team that knows how to crawl out of a hole as they find themselves in the present, it is Mumbai. In 2015, IPL season, they lost 5 out of their first 6 matches and won the title. So we can hope that MI can handle the situation and will be seen fighting with failures. In the end, the journey is more interesting than the victory.
