India managed to retain the third position in the ODI rankings as they beat West Indies by 3-0 at their own home ground. Also, India scored a hat-trick of wins by winning the third and the final ODI match by 119 runs. In fact, it is not the kill we should say but the ruthless whitewashing of the Caribbean. Incidentally, this is not the first time India beat the Caribbean, but earlier this year, exactly in February, West Indies toured India for ODIs as well as one T20I match, but as mentioned above, even at that point, Indian team clean-swiped the west Indies team by 3-0 in both the series.

But finally, the good news is that the India Cricket team tops the charts by remaining third on the ICC ODI rankings, with 110 ICC rating points. Speaking of the first and second position, New Zealand and England, remain intact with 128 and 119 ICC rating points.

Totally impressed by the 3-0 win against the Caribbeans, the Indian team captain, Shikhar Dhawan credited the win to all the youngsters inside the team stating,

“I think the boys are young. He played with a lot of maturity. I am proud of the way he handled himself in the field.”

Moving forward, Shubham Gill was named not only the man of the match for his 98 runs in the third ODI match but also the player of the series for his outstanding innings, putting it all together. On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal was on the peak of his time, and took 4 wickets in the last match. Surprisingly, unlike the previous two matches, all three top ‘s’ named batsmen with the likes of Shubham Gill (98 off 98), Shikhar Dhawan (58 off 74), and Shreyas Iyer (44 off 34) went ballistic during the match and chased the 225 runs target with ease and also winning it by 119 runs.

When asked Shikhar about his own performance, he credit again not all to himself but all inclusive, saying,

“I am happy with my form. I’ve been playing in this format for a long time. I was happy with the way I performed in the first ODI, and even today I am happy with my performance. The way he (Shubman Gill) scored 98 runs; it was amazing to see him. I am also proud of my bowling unit, who gave their 100 per cent.”

After whitewashing the Caribbean in ODIs, another five-match T20I series awaits between the two teams which starts on 29th and will end on 7th August. Following this, the next few matches will continue as:

  • Then India vs Zimbabwe 3-match ODI series – August 18 – August 22
  • Then India vs Australia T20I 3-match series – 23 September – 25 September
  • Then India Vs. SA T20I 3-match series – 28 September – 3 October
  • Then India vs South Africa, ODI 3 match series – 6 October – 11 October

And then the mega event we all have been waiting for is the ICC T20I World Cup starting from 16th October.
