India’s 1000th ODI : India vs West Indies, Learn about India’s Journey so far

The One Day International cricket competition between India and West Indies will be played on February 6, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The match is going to create history as India will be the first country in the history of cricket to play its 1000th ODI match. To achieve this peak of highest success, the hard work of 48 years is responsible. If we match the statistics, India will be placed at the second position to play the 1000th ODI tournament as England is at the number one position and it has played a total of 1045 test matches. On this occasion of celebrating India’s huge success of playing its 1000th ODI match, we have to look back and see the efforts taken from the very beginning.

India has played the first ODI match against England in 1974 under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar. After the span of 19 years, India score a century of victory while it took a time span of 45 years to score the number of victories to 500. So far, 242 Indian players have shown their brilliancy in ODI. Last month, Venkatesh Iyer has added to the group numbered 242nd who debut in ODI against South Africa.

Here we are presenting the thrilling journey of India to reach this level in cricket.

The first match was played in 1974 under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar against England where the team had to face failure.

The 100th match– Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, it was played against Australia in 1986 which was a failure.

200th match– In 1992, the match was played against Australia and the captain was Mohammad Azruddin which was again a failed match.

300th match– in 1996 the match against South Africa under the captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar was played. And it was a bad defeat.

400th match– Under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin, the match was played against Kenya in 1999 and it was a victorious match.

500th match– In 2002, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, the match was played against England with no result.

600th match– against Sri Lanka in 2005 under the captaincy of Virender Sehwag, the result was a win.

700th matchMS Dhoni’s captaincy against England in 2008, result win

800th match2012 against Australia under Dhoni’s captaincy, result lost

900th match2016 against New Zealand under Dhoni’s captaincy, result win

1000th match– In 2022 against the West Indies under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the result yet to come.
