  • In India vs SA 2nd T20I match, India registers its 2nd consecutive loss by 4 wickets
  • The former legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar slams the Indian captain questioning him about his bowling side and promoting less experienced players in the crucial overs.

Rishabh Pant, the current captain of Team India gets slammed by former legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, for his decisions being made at the 2nd T20I against the proteas.

Mr. Gavaskar questioned why the team are not having wicket-taking bowlers except for Bhuvneshwar Kumar who was outstanding in the innings taking 4 wickets. Mr. Gavaskar said,

“The major problem is the fact that they don’t have wicket-taking bowlers in this squad apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. So, you take wickets and then you get the opposition under pressure. So, in both the matches, did anybody look like getting a wicket apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar? He was getting the ball to move. That is the issue which is the reason why a total of 211 was something that they could not defend,”

As per our analysis, in the above statement made by Mr. Gavaskar, his question to the losing captain, Rishabh Pant, was only to point out that if Bhuveneshwarkumar can make the ball move why than why we have more bowlers as such. Probably, he was hinting towards getting Umran Malik in action for his swing and good line and length. For your information, Mr. Gavaskar was one the few who noticed the Kashmiri Talent, Umran Malik for his speed and wicket taking abilities and was very much impressed by the bowler.

In the ongoing India vs South Africa T2O series, Umran has been selected in his maiden call to play for the Indian national team.

The second question, that Mr. Gavaskar raised was for promoting Axal Patel (all-rounder) before Dinesh Karthik, who is much experienced and in form and was able to play some important innings if was sent on time on the crease. Mr. Gavaskar aid,

“Definitely (Karthik should have come in ahead of Axar), there’s no question about it. Sometimes, there are labels that you’re a finisher so you tend to think that he is going to come only after the 15th over or thereabout, ‘you can’t come in the 12th or 13th over’. And we have seen this happen in the IPL as well, a lot of teams have kept some of their big-hitters only for the last 4-5 overs when actually they can be sent in earlier as they have the ability to work the ball around,”

Definitely, the questions implied by the former cricketers sounds perfectly in favour of the team which probably Rishabh Pant hasn’t been able to address.

Well, India Vs. South Africa’s third T20 match is going to be held tomorrow i.e., on June 14, 2022 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This match will be important for India because if they lose this match, the series will be officially won by South Africa, the remaining 2 matches will not hold much for the Indian side.
