India repeating the same mistakes as Pakistan did in the 1990s, says Rashid Latif the former Pakistani cricketer on his YouTube Channel‘Caught behind’. Now before what happened exactly and why did he say so, we’ll understand just after a few happenings that took place in the Indian national team.

Indian national team, their selectors to be precise, were seen making many changes in the team especially with leadership (Captaincy) that includes the likes of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, and the latest JaspritBumrah. But there are many who are not very happy with the way it functions. Now we all are hearing about these changes happening for a long time now, but why suddenly the issue got erupted again?

The primary reason for this eruption can be credited to the squad that was recently selected for the Zimbabwe tour starting on August 18th. Surprisingly for many, they didn’t find main names in the list, such as Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya. Now, this is not the first time the selectors have given rest to all these star players, but the question is why?

In the previously concluded West Indies ODI series the same sequence was repeated to be precise, Kohli and Bumrah were not included in it. More to add, KL Rahul hasn’t got his chance to play in the team since the last IPL. So, in short many are not with the changes happening that includes the famous face from Pakistan, Mr. Rashid Latif.

Since recent months, Rashid has been a sort of a constant dripping of water on the heads of the Indian selectors which in other words, a constant critic. Recently, Rashid made a point in which he showcased concern over the change that BCCI is doing with its team and has compared to what Pakistan did in a similar fashion in the early 90’s. He said while speaking on his Youtube channel,

“Everyone talks about backup. But they have now produced seven backup captains in the past year! This is the first time I’m seeing this in India’s history. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, JaspritBumrah, they are repeating the same mistake as Pakistan’s in the 1990s,”

He further added,

“They haven’t found a solid opener, nor do they have a stable middle-order. They just want a new captain. No captain is playing consistently for them. KL Rahul is unfit now; Rohit was unfit before. Virat is mentally unfit. So, they will have to think about it. They are changing so many captains.. they need a leader like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli,”

Well, some may find these statements a valid point but before you make that judgment, let us remind you, since the IPL league’s conclusion, there’s rarely been a series that India has lost. To give you a reminder of few.

  • India Vs South Africa, 5-match T20I Series in June – 2-2 (Draw)
  • India Vs Ireland, 2-match T20I series in June – India won by 2-0
  • India vs England fifth test Series – England Won by 7 wickets
  • India Vs England 3-match T20I Series in July – India won by 2-1
  • India Vs. England 3-match ODI series in July – India Won by 2-1
  • India Vs. West Indies 3-match T20i series – India whitewashed the Caribbean’s by 3-0

So, if you look at stats above, it clearly indicates that what India cricket team has achieved so far, is highly commendable and when it comes to India’s selection committee, they must be quite happy with the results. So as for many, the statements made by Rashid makes a fair point but for some after looking at the stats, it might be a matter of reasoning.

India after winning their first ODI against the Caribbeans lately, will again be clashing against them i.e., today, August 1st and will be an interesting one!!
