Virat Kohli continues to be the best Indian batsman to top the charts in international cricket despite unsuccessful attempts over the past two years. People are still waiting for the big score from the batsman. In international cricket, he was the only batsman to have consistently averaged 50 or above. But forget the average, for the last two years, this player has not scored a century.
If you look at his ICC Test, ODI, and T20I rankings, you will find the player’s name at 10th, 2nd and 16th position respectively, which was not the case 2 years ago.
According to the estimated dates in the year 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, you will see Virat Kohli standing at the No. 1 position in two consecutive (2019 and 2020), while in the year 2021,the player saw a slight decline of one position, replaced by Kane Williamson.
If we go by the approximate dates in the year 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, you’ll Virat Kohli standing on the Number 1 position in two consecutively (2019 & 2020) whereas, in the year 2021, the player saw a slight decline of one position, replacing by Kane Williamson. But the problem didn’t worsen here, but in fact started deteriorating when the decline took a steep fall. In the current scenario, the player is at the 10th position in the ICC test batting rankings which is a huge decline in one year.
Now talking about the rankings that the player has in ODI’s, the player (Virat Kohli) is still standing tall at the 2nd position and just behind the Pakistani best, Babar Azam. This format of cricket is somewhere the cricketer is doing well and can replace the current Babar Azam just after a few good innings. In the top 10 batsmen, its only Virat and Rohit. Rohit is currently at the 4th position which is better than Virat.
Next comes the T20 format, the former Indian Batsman is not even in the top 10 batsman list and is sitting at the 16th position. In the year 2020, the batsman was the 10 position, and in 2021 was even better, when Virat was in the 7th position. But only God knows what bad-omen the player is facing currently that this year the rankings have fallen to 16th position. These are stats provided are based on the reports from the ICC.
So, on an average it its decent but the major concern is the continuous decline and not vice versa. There is a saying by anonymous, that
“Whenever there is a problem, it means there is some problem that needs to be rectified”
In Virat’s case, the quote applies fully justified because a rising star to a decline meteor is not something the player would be wanting to listen too.
In the current IPL season also, despite the team’s position on third, there has been no major contribution from Virat So far. In total the number of matches the player played 6 Matches, innings 6, Runs scored – 116, Highest score – 48, Average – 23.80 and strike rate of 125.26.
In this year’s IPL starting, especially in their first match, Virat showed some ray hope by scoring unfearingly 41 runs off 29 balls helping his team RCB for 205/2 massive total but unfortunately, they lost that match against PBKS.
- Second Game – 12 runs against KKR
- Third Game – 5 runs against RR
- Fourth Game – 48 runs against MI
- Fifth Game – 1 run against CSK
- Sixth Game – 12 runs against DC
In the latest ad, Virat was seen, shutting the mouth of everyone, saying,
“On the pitch or in life, the only score those matters is the one you give yourself. So ignore the noise and shape your true self, just like the Philips BT3000 beard trimmer that adapts to your unique style”
Therefore, as a reader or cricket enthusiast, you’ll understand the ups and dips the batsman is going through is not because of any problem in his form but the confidence the player is struggling to get back.
“If you’re strong by mind, you’re strong by stature… Anonymous
