The former legendary Pakistani player, Wasim Akram, recently made a verdict after India’s defeat at the Asia Cup 2022. Wasim Akram expressed concerns about the defeat as it took place just before the T20 World Cup. He said all this during an interview with the star sports. During the talk, he showered huge praise on the Indian captain for his fantabulous performance but also raised concerns, saying that his performance would be affected if the rest of the team did not perform, especially the middle order. Look at what he said,
“What a player. What an innings he played (against Sri Lanka), no doubt. But I think this performance from India will affect his performance. If you’re losing just before the World Cup which is just around the corner, that does make a difference to your captain.”
He further added,
“Opening partnership… yes, they played beautifully but the middle order has to perform as well once the openers get out. And that’s what didn’t happen. Although they reached almost 170-odd (against Sri Lanka), if they get partnerships going like they did against Pakistan, India should get 190 every game,”
Wasim also was seen pointing out the bad team selection from the BCCI selection management, saying that dropping Dinesh karthik at the Super 4 stage proved too costly while Deepka Hooda scored barely any runs. He added that probably captain Rohit and Rahul would use him as a secret weapon.
And what we notice, Wasim Akram saying is absolutely right, because first Dinesh Karthik got a few chances to play in the Asia Cup 2022, but when was required the most as changing of gears, he wasn’t selected for the play. And probably because of which India lost its momentum and gave up during the critical hours.
The T20 world cup is at the verge of its start, and if team India doesn’t focus on these small looking errors, then the days are not far for that India, god forbid, loses a crucial tournament.
