The former cricketer and wicketkeeper of the Indian cricket team, Saba Karim, made some startling statements recently. According to him, Rishabh Pant possesses the X-factor that Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan do not have.
For your information, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, are currently included in the ODI squad, against South Africa, whereas, Rishabh Pant has already flown to Australia, to prepare for the upcoming T20I world cup.
Rishabh, although a good southpaw cricketer, has been under the scanner for his inconsistency and lack of experience, but has always found a place to play for the white ball effectively, almost all the time.
However, from Sanju Samson’s side if we talk, since IPL and all the matches after he has played, his plus point was that he was consistent in all the opportunities he received, and was also a strong contender for the T20 World Cup but….
Let us remind you all, in the first ODI match against the Proteas, it was Sanju Samson only, who sailed the team near to the win while rest all with like of Shikhar Dhawan, Shubham Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, all failed miserably scoring 4, 3 and 19 runs respectively.
Despite all this, Karim believes Rishabh to be a better choice than Sanju and Ishan. Look at what he has to say in his own words,
“I would put Rishabh Pant ahead of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. I don’t see the X factor in these two that Rishabh Pant has. Samson is a wonderful stroke player and can retain his side in the team as a batter. Ishan Kishan hasn’t made the most of his chances, which is why he has fallen down the pecking order. With that said, Pant would be my first choice in both white-ball and red-ball cricket,”
He further added,
“Selectors aren’t looking at all these players as keeper-batters. They consider them pure batters and it is an added bonus if you are also able to keep wickets. Sanju Samson’s return to the main team will happen as a batter, not as a wicketkeeper,”
However, it was not like he only said good things about Rishabh, but also praised the cricketer from Kerala (Sanju Samson) saying that he has improved a lot in his performance since the last IPL and has been quite good since then.
