How to bowl in cricket? Deciding the best tricks and techniques of bowling: Sports are very difficult to understand and play. As it requires a lot of hard work, focus, and determination. It also requires a sense of judgment, decision-making, and common sense while playing on the ground. When a cricketer is on the crease, he must be present in a smart game. For that, the cricketers are trained by an experienced coach to rectify the situational mistakes. The game should play with a minute and vital tricks and techniques. Although the team can not win the match, but it can prove the perfect and best presentation on the ground in front of national and international audiences.

Cricket is a game consisting of batting, bowling, and making runs. Bat hits the shots and it becomes easier to score runs. Many techniques are there to handle the bat and its directions and positions to strike. But it’s a skill that cricketer needs to develop to judge the coming ball. And throwing a ball towards the batsman is a part of the practice. In this article, we will learn about the tricks and techniques of bowling.

Basically, there are two types of bowling which have again some subtypes.

1. Fast bowling

The delivery and jump of the ball are very fast as per the strength of the bawler. It’s a long run-up to the bowling crease. Distance of 22 meters from the batsman is kept by the professional fast bowlers.

Important factors that require for fast bowling

  1. Arm position
  2. Wrist position
  3. Ensuring momentum through the crease
  4. Aim the target

Let’s understand the subtypes of fast bowling

Swing

It’s very difficult to through a ball that swings to reach up to the bat, especially for a new ball. The wind is the main factor that is responsible for maintaining the swing on a smooth surface and inclination to the direction. Swing bowling is divided into two categories.

Inswing– here, the ball swings from the offside of the batsman and swings to the leg side through the air. The ball should be handled with the thumb underneath. The shining surface of the ball should be facing towards the offside.

Outswing– the bowling action of outswing is opposite to Inswing. The shiny surface of the ball should face towards the leg side of the pitch.

Bouncer

Bouncing the ball at small distances on the pitch is the most preferred type of bowling. The ideal bouncer gets when it’s well-directed in a short-length region. In matches like T20 having fewer overs, a bowler can bounce the ball per over.

Slower

Slower is a style of throwing the ball at low speed. It affects the timing of hitting the ball while batting. Knuckleball is a newly introduced version of slow balling in which the ball can be serviced with the three main bones of the fingers, therefore it is called Knuckleball. It’s very difficult to decide the speed of the ball until it reaches to the batsman.

2. Spin bowling

A cricketer who is an expert in spin bowling is known as a spinner and their speed of throwing a ball is slow. The batsman is always feeling relax and easy to perform on the spinner’s ball. It has many variations to through the ball. It’s an art to spin the ball. Some tricks are-

  1. Grip the ball properly
  2. Understand the pitch conditions
  3. Positioning fingers
  4. Drift the ball

The main two types of spin bowling are-

Leg Spin 

Spinner turns the ball from the leg-side to off-side for a right-handed batsman and vice versa. A left-handed leg spinner is known as a chinaman. Leg-spin bowling is one of the hardest bowling styles in cricket. To spin the ball, instead of using fingers, bowlers use their wrists more effectively.

Off-spin

The bowlers normally spin the ball from the offside to the leg side for a right-handed batsman. Bowlers use their fingers to spin it.
