The Emirates cricket on Thursday removed Ahmed Raza and announced CP Rizwan’s name as the new captain of the UAE qualifier team in the upcoming T20I Asia Cup-2022. Rizwan is also UAE’s captain for the T20 format. Raza, who was announced the skipper of the team for the same championship will remain the leader of the team in ODI.
confirming the sudden move in a statement, Emirates Cricket said, “We took the sudden change in captainship after selection committees advise, the role of T20 and ODI sides should not be same, and the task would be separated in two players.”
“The committee believes, by providing the respective captains a sole-format-focus, it creates a strong mentorships succession plan and encourages a well-focused commitment to fine-tuning strategic on-field components of the game.” They added.
Reciting the strategy behind over captainship change, they further stated that UAE’s T20 game is in good standing and has exceptional depth. Therefore, Raza will continue in his role in ODIs, and Rizwan will take his place in T20Is as well as the scheduled Asia Cup-2022.

The UAE cricket team recently played a tour championship in Scotland, where they lost three World Cup League 2 matches to the hosts and USA in Aberdeen last week, with the last abandoned due to rain.
Asia Cup-2022 is scheduled to take place in UAE and start on August 27 and will continue till September 11. All matches of the tournament will be held in two venues Sharjah and Dubai.
The qualifier team, UAE is placed in group A with India and Pakistan. They will be playing their first match against India on August 31, and the second match against Pakistan on September 2, 2022.
