Die-hard MS Dhoni fan Rajvardhan Hangargekar realises late father’s dream by signing with CSK for IPL 2022

The young and energetic fast bowler from Maharashtra, Rajvardhan Hangargekar was a part of the Under-19 World Cup. The pacer is known for his speed and has touched speeds of 140 kmph or more while bowling. Not only bowling, but the player is also a big hitter who has seen some great innings in the World Cup with a strike rate of 185.

This year Chennai Super Kings took some smart decisions and bought Rajvardhan for Rs 1.5 crore (INR 15 million). While the four-time champion once again invested heavily on the veterans and managed to bring back many of his former players, including some young players like Rajvardhan.

Rajvardhan is considered one of the heroes of India’s Under-19 title-winning campaign World Cup 2021. When Hangargekar was only 17, he lost his father to COVID-19 during the first lockdown in the year 2020. However, the midst of misery he showed great determination to focus on himself to be a part of the Indian Cricket team one day.  Hailing from the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, the youngster prepared a pitch of his own to train and practice fast bowling at his farm in his village.

The 19-year-old, who recently won the Under-19 World Cup trophy, Yash Dhull was the captain. said he always knew what he wanted to do and that he had already done so after the shocking demise of his father. He had set his goals. Hangargekar admitted that it was a tough period for him but decided to go after his goals and work as hard as he could to make it to the India U-19 team.

Speaking to the board of Cricket (BCCI), Hangargekar said that his father who is no more in this world always loved Dhoni and wanted him to be part of the CSK team and he is excited to make his father’s dream come true.

“I have always been a die-hard fan of MS Dhoni, my father used to like CSK a lot, he really loved Dhoni and he always wanted me to play for CSK. I am really happy to play with his franchise,”

He further was found saying,

“Everyone wants to play in the IPL, by the time my name came up in the auction, that was the amount I got excited about. When MI and CSK were fighting it out for me in the auction, that was a great moment for me,”

The player said that he would like to learn from MS Dhoni and know what to do to keep a calm mindset instead of getting worried. He said, he wants to be like the West Indies team who not only bowl well but when it comes to scoring runs, they seem to be pulling the game with their big-hitting abilities.
