First, we will see what is pitch?

Pitch is a 20meter long grounded surface on which the two teams can play. It’s a distance between the bawler and batsman. It can call as a central strip on the cricket ground as it is fixed on the center part of the playground.

Dead Pitch
Dead Pitch

Dead Pitch

Dead pitch is a pure and original part of the ground that doesn’t cover with grass. It’s a dark-colored, rigid, and completely plane and flat surface having no moisture. The mainland region in India consists of this kind of pitch which is considered the best for a batsman to score high and worst for a bowler to throw a ball. Dead pitch is mostly considered in the matches like T20 format. As the player has to score high in minimum overs and the pitch is best to score the runs.

Green pitch is completely opposite to dead pitch that considered a nightmare for the batsman as he cannot hit the ball and run to score on the green grass. As the name suggests, the pitch is completely covered with grass. It is useful for seam bowlers where a ball swings easily. It is very disadvantageous for a spinner. The uncertainty of bouncing the ball is also a negative factor for a batsman. Green pitches are found in western countries that are preferred to play test matches.

Dusty Pitch

It is the ideal type of cricket pitch with a dry, soft, and dusty texture. It is beneficial for both the batsman and the bawler too. A batsman can predict the bounces and a bowler can run and throw the ball comfortably. Spinners can take a number of wickets on this pitch. Dusty pitch is found in the region of the subcontinent.

How to construct a perfect cricket pitch?

Construction of pitch includes some basic building factors which need to keep in mind. They are-

  • The dimension of the pitch
  • The Size of the pitch
  • Managing the drainage
  • Material

Construction of a cricket pitch is a big task and it is performed by the custodians. The main factor involves in the process of creating a cricket pitch is mixing soil and clay. According to the experts, the temperature and moisture in the soil should be studied first, because in any case, a player cannot play on the wet ground. Waterlogging is the main problem in the context of the pitch. This issue can be resolve by managing drainage as they transact the water from gravel. The next thing is the size and dimension of the pitch and the material. These all are major factors that the curator suggests as they are experienced, person.

According to ICC’s rules, the dimensions of a cricket pitch are 22 yards x 3.33 yards respectively. Material is again a key factor. The quality of the material is selected as per the type and nature of the soil. Mixing the soil with other materials and watering it is a primary block of pitch construction. There is a science behind this; as the nature of the soil differs from place to place. The composition and characteristics of the soil also get differ. The proportion of clay and sand also makes a difference. Red soil and black soil are the two types with which the curator does experiments and constructs the cricket pitch.

Despite of this, the cracks in the pitch, dryness, and grass-related problems can solve under the process of maintenance.

Controversy
