Cricket Australia will see a new president from this year and he is none other than Dr. Lachlan Henderson. Dr. Henderson will replace Interim President Richard Freudenstein in a permanent role.
Epworth Healthcare’s current group chief executive was a former first-class player who played for Western Australia in the 1980s and joined the Big Boys League in 2018. Former players will take charge of the topmost seat at a crucial stage. Where two senior men Justin Langer as head coach and Tim Paine (Test captain) have been out of the league following poor performances and pressure.
In just 5 months, this is the third time the chair has been announced to have been held permanently by Earl Eddings, but after his resignation last October, the seat fell vacant several times until Cricket Australia found a suitable replacement.
Whereas in an official board release, Dr. Henderson said his top priorities would include a financial future for cricket that is sustainable and especially for women.
“Dr. Henderson, who will commence immediately, signaled his first priorities would be ensuring a strong, sustainable financial future for cricket, increased participation, particularly among girls and women, improved consultation with state and territory chairs and all stakeholders, and continuing to drive high standards of behavior across the game,”
Dr. Henderson was then seen thanking the State Presidents, the Board, and the CA Directors for the honor and privilege of being elected President, the highest in the Australian Cricket Board.
“I would like to thank Richard, the other CA directors, and the state chairs and boards for their support. It is a privilege and honor to be elected chair and serve our national sport,”
Dr. Henderson before was also the chairman of the western cricket Board of Australia. He further added,
“looking forward to working closely with our states and territory cricket chairs and associations, the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), our players, and our partners, on how we unite and work together to ensure cricket continues to thrive into the future as Australia’s favorite sport.”
