Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha slammed the BCCI president for not selecting him for the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur in November despite assurances from Mr. Ganguly.

Saha claimed that BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly assured him through a WhatsApp chat that he would definitely be a part of it.

“After scoring 61 against New Zealand at Kanpur, Dada (Ganguly) congratulated me over WhatsApp and mentioned, ‘As long as I’m here (helming the BCCI), you would be in the team’. Such a message from the BCCI president really boosted my confidence. What I’m struggling to understand is that how things have changed so fast,”

In response, Snehasish Ganguly who is the brother of Saurav Ganguly and the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal was seen lashing out at the player, suggesting that the player would have got some misunderstanding and might have made some error in his judgment making a private conversation going public.

Snehashish said,

“This is my personal opinion, but what was communicated to him (Saha) was private. He probably shouldn’t have gone public with that. Also, he could have played the Ranji Trophy. He cited personal reasons for pulling out and we have to respect that. The door is always open for him, whenever he wants to join the squad,”

After this incident, Saha has received support from fans from all around, but he did not want to reveal the name of the journalist to ensure that his livelihood is not hampered.

While speaking to PTI, the Treasurer at the BCCI Arun Dhumal said that he will look into the matter and will definitely let Mr. Jay Shah have a conversation with Wriddhiman. In response and speaking to the press (Indian Express) on the matter, Saha said that he hasn’t received any update from the BCCI, and when asked to reveal the name of the journalist, he refused to do so and kept saying that it was never part of his intention to harm one’s career, to bring down a person.

“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet. If they ask me to reveal the name (of the journalist), I would tell them it was never my intention to harm somebody’s career, to pull a person down. That’s why I didn’t reveal the name in my tweet. That’s not the teaching of my parents. The main purpose of my tweet was to expose the fact that there’s someone in the media who does such things, disrespecting a player’s wish,”

According to Saha, his sole intention was to allege the type of journalism that is prevalent and wanted it to be busted through his Twitter handle. Below you can see for yourself what level journalism has fallen to.
