Because I hadn’t won an ICC title, removing me as ODI captain was a “logical decision,” according to Virat Kohli

Indian Test captain Virat Kohli on Wednesday said he understands better why he was dropped from his ODI captaincy, which he also termed as “very logical”. He added saying that he does not know whether the verdict was right or wrong but there is nothing to argue about.

Just last week, Virat Kohli was removed from his post and Rohit Sharma was taken as the new captain. He said that he was not informed about the removal, which was certainly a setback.

Virat Kohli has refuted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly saying that no communication was made to him regarding not giving up the T20I captaincy. He also rubbished reports of him being ruled out of the South Africa tour. In a recent statement released by Rohit, he said, “A batsman of his quality is always needed in the team. To average more than 50 in T20 format is crazy and unrealistic. Obviously, with experience, Kohli batted and pulled India out of tough situations several times.

Adding to this, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin also shared his thoughts questioning the timing of Rohit’s loss before the check sequence and Kohli’s break from ODIs. Azhar said that there is no harm in taking a break, but talking about such a time only confirms the speculations about the rift between the two superstars of Indian cricket.

According to reports, all is not well between the two senior players. This is from the day when the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed separate captains for white-ball and red-ball cricket. The news of a rift between the country’s two sports stalwarts Kohli and Sharma is not new, but there has never been such a ruckus on social media. Fans across the country created a ruckus on social media. The board was unprepared to have two different captains in the limited overs format after Kohli stepped down as T20 captain and it was a big deal when the BCCI named Rohit Sharma as the T20 captain of the Indian team as well as the new ODI captain.

Talking about Rohit Sharma in an interview he said that Rohit is a very capable captain, who is also very great in tactical thinking ability. Rohit Sharma has proved his captaincy with Mumbai Indians, saying that he will support Rohit 100% and completely and will continue to lead the team in the right direction to move forward.

In the advisory recently issued by the BCCI, it has been clearly stated that due to a left injury (hamstring), Rohit Sharma will not be able to play in the upcoming three-Test tour of South Africa. The injury took place during a training session in Mumbai. He got included in the squad of 18 with the opener Priyank Panchal. As expected, there was a mixed reaction everywhere. The newly appointed captain was heavily criticized on Twitter.

According to media reports, the selectors apparently have two strong contenders to choose between for the Test vice-captainship; it’s still a question to whether to promote KL Rahul or to go with Rahane for this series. In the limited over’s cricket, Rahul has already been entitled as Rohit’s deputy confirming the clear series plan ahead.

The matter is a bit trickier in the longest format. Rahul returned to the Test team after a gap of two years during the tour of England earlier this year. And though he scored a fifty and a century in tough conditions, he is yet to cement his place in Test cricket. The upcoming tour of South Africa will be a big challenge for him.
