BCCI secretary Jay Shah has finally revealed that the next IPL cycle (2023-2027) will have 94 matches in a season going on for two and a half months in ICC and should be seen as the next future tour program so that other potential player from another team can also participate.  For a week, there was speculation that the IPL would have 74 or 84 matches, but recently, the BCCI secretary confirmed that it will be 94 games per season and 410 games in the entire 5-year cycle of 2023 – 2027.

Recently the IPL media rights witnessed a huge surge in revenue from Rs. 32,500 crores and to 48,390 croresfor the BCCIand once upon the closure, the BCCI announced the increase in time and the number of matches. In a press conference, when the BCCI Chief secretary was asked why such change, he responded by saying,

“You need to understand that in 2018, it was for 60 games. For the next cycle, we will have 410 games, with 74 games each in the first two seasons and then 84 games in the next and finally 94 in the 2027 edition.

That is an aspect we have worked upon. Let me inform you that from the next ICC FTP calendar, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC.”

Mr. Shah is right, when the revenue has increased, definitely it will also have the arrangements to divide it in order for the benefit of the game. The IPL bidding process was conducted in A, B, C and D packages and where the first Package A was won by the existing media rights partner Star Sports Networkby 23,575 crores, whereas the Package B and C was won by Viacom18 at the whopping price tag of Rs 23,758 crores having 18 matches each season.

Times Internet secured package D for Rs.1058 crores comprising both TV and Digital rights.

Recently, in a good gesture, BCCI also announced to increase the pension of all the 900 registered match officials including former player men & women by 100%.

Mr. Shah said,

“I’m pleased to announce an increase in the monthly pension of former cricketers (men & women) and match officials. Around 900 personnel will avail of this benefit and close to 75% of personnel will be beneficiaries of a 100% raise”
