BCCI announces increase in monthly pensions of former cricketers and umpires

In a major move, the BCCI has announced that all their former cricket personnel will get a pension of double the amount they would normally get. BCCI has announced hike in monthly pension for all its former cricketers including both men and women. The announced hike will be active from June 1st, 2022 and is being seen as a major step taken by the BCCI.

So how will this all go?

For all the first-class players those who were getting Rs 15000/-, from now onwards will receive Rs. 30,000, on the other hand the test former test players those who were getting Rs. 37500/- as their pension, from now onwards will receive Rs. 60,000. The former cricketers those who were in the pension plan slab of Rs. 50,000 will receive 70,000.

So, the good news stays not limited to the men’s side only but former women players will also get benefitted by the scheme. The international women player who was receiving Rs. 30,000 as their pension, from now on will receive Rs. 52500 as their new pension amount. The first-class women player who participated in 2003 and further, their sum of Rs. 22000 will see a hike of 45000. On such a joyful occasion, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and BCCI Chief Saurav Ganguly took it to twitter thanking all the 900 personnel for their contribution to the cricket they have given. Jay Shah said,

“I’m pleased to announce an increase in the monthly pension of former cricketers (men and women) and match officials,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said. “Around 900 personnel will avail of this benefit and close to 75% of personnel will be beneficiaries of a 100 pc raise.”

Whereas Mr. Ganguly expressing his gratitude further said,

“It is extremely important that the financial well-being of our former cricketers is taken care of. The players remain the lifeline and as a board, it is our duty to be by their side once their playing days are over. The umpires have been unsung heroes and the BCCI truly values their contribution.”

“Whatever the BCCI is today, it is because of the contribution of its former cricketers and umpires,” BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal said. “We are pleased to announce the increase in the monthly pensions which will be a gesture for the well-being of our former cricketers.”

Indeed, the news for all the veterans have come as blessing and to enjoy the game of cricket with more enthusiasm. Because when there is money to fulfil your daily needs with ease, then it becomes easier to focus on rest of the things and enjoy it fully.

Surprisingly, the move taken came just after the IPL media rights were seen closure at Rs. 44,075 crores and counting and out of which the profits generated for the BCCI is double to what they received back in 2017 from Disney Star. In 2017, Disney star paid BCCI ₹16,347 crore.
