- Ricky Ponting boosts his team’s confidence ahead of their match against Punjab Kings on April 20th
- Delhi team beats Punjab Kings by nine wickets
Just before the match against the Punjab Kings, the Delhi Capitals team were all pumped up by the way the head coach, Ricky Ponting, boosted their morale is something incredible, Axar Patel says.
Based on the news reports from NDTV, the pep talks from the coach Ricky Ponting helped the team build-up the lost confidence which was due to several factors going on in the team.
Firstly, the team is going through a rough patch of losing games and secondly, the team is suffering through COVID infected coach and players. The sudden outbreak inside the team started through Patrick Farhart who is the physio coach for the DC team and currently, as per news reports, the count has reached to five approximately.
However, in the match against the Punjab Kings yesterday, the team managed to make only 115 runs from 20 overs which occurred to be the least made runs in this current IPL league by a team. Taking the advantage of the situation, the DC team came back bouncing and thrashed the PBKS team only losing 1 wicket, and won the entire match with nine wickets in hand. It was a remarkable comeback, and we say so because if the DC team’s bowling would have not been effective, then altogether the results could have been different.
Delhi Capitals team did a fantastic job in both bowling and batting whereas David Warner, was the hero of the match and played beautiful 60 runs being not out of 30 deliveries.
Ricky’s pep talk is believed to be the morale boosting factor, the DC team were able to perform so well. He did everything in his capacity and under the given situation stay focussed and committed to what there are here for.
“We were quarantined and we started practice two-three days after that, he (Ponting) told us we have two options. We have to play the match. You can think that there are positive cases, and the preparations aren’t done.
“Or you can think all outside things are not in our hands and you should show commitment with regard to the effort and preparation,”
“We were focusing on our game (and) we did our planning (accordingly). So that’s it, that was the speech and that was our mindset,”
The pep talk also affected one more player in a positive way who was worried about his performance in the team. The player is none other than Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep was previously associated with Kolkata knight riders’ team but the franchise didn’t need his services this year and was not called for.
However, after becoming the part of the Delhi Capitals team, Kuldeep Yadav regained his lost confidence and has played almost every match like a warrior fetching useful wickets for the team. Kuldeep was worried about his performance and whether he’ll be kept inside the team for all the matches, was something the player kept on thinking about. But thanks again to Ricky’s speech. Axar revealed,
“We gave him confidence in the practice match and he was told that he would play all the matches and doesn’t need to take tension about his performance.
“When he knows that he is playing all the matches, he needs to focus on his bowling. And that is happening. He is now focusing on his bowling and the way he is taking wickets; it becomes easy for me to partner with him,”
Therefore “all is well if end is well”is something we would say to the DC team. The DC team are going to face their next rivals tomorrow in the form Rajasthan Royals who ahead being on the third position on the IPL’s point table.
