Virat Kohli, ex. a teammate from Royal Challenger Bangalore has recently displayed signs of concerns regarding the opening pair in the Indian squad. Now you must all be thinking that isn’t it that, so much of experimentation has been already done with Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and a few more. Then why do Indian decision-makers need more backups than just working on what they have.
But the former player, Parthiv Patel feels that Virat kohli despite being out of form can make his name to the openers list starting from the Asia Cup. He said,
“There is no doubt about Virat Kohli’s abilities. It is just about the form; it is just about which position you want him to play. That is why the Asia Cup becomes very crucial. Not for him, just for India’s point of view also whether they get the right combination or not,”
But honestly speaking, whatever the team mate supports Virat for, Virat was in pressure, is in pressure and might be in pressure in coming few days. A bad form cannot return by just 1-2 matches but it is the mindset that Virat Kohli has to work on to review all his failures and see where things went wrong for him, for the most of the time. And once we have that realization, we’ll see a different Kohli on the field.
For Kohli, the news from all overs is big ‘No’, do you want see it for yourself, then check out below,
- Prolonged lean patch has led the selectors make Virat get dropped from the West Indies tour
- The star batter hasn’t scored a single century in three years
Above are just two instances, in fact there are so many that one can just count off.
But there’s one point of correction for the Indian selectors is that Kohli should have been given rest at least for the Zimbabwe-like tour, why? Zimbabwe, even though an old team has never been in good shape and could act as a practice match for Virat to make some experiments but giving him rest probably may not work out. Because here we are speaking of two major events, Asia Cup and T20 WC. How can a player in such a bad form and mindset can make a comeback, that too in such short while, no way!! The only solution is he needs some time, a prolonged one as Dinesh Karthik had, Hardik Pandya had, and look at them now.
Speaking prolongness, KL Rahul has got an ample time since his IPL assignment, and still he’s battling with COVID, hamstring and what not, making his chances look gloomy for the Asia Cup and if really doesn’t make it through the list, then according to Parthiv, Virat might get the chance to pen back again.
“I keep saying about the combination because that would be the key. You might just see Virat Kohli open in the Asia Cup because KL Rahul is not fit, as of now. And India has tried a lot of other openers. They have tried Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav in this series,”
