1. Close Catching

It is the position where the fielder is placed near the batsman to catch the ball as instant as possible to create the obstacle in the way of making runs by the opponent.  The fielder is not away from the batsman than 15 yards.

2. The Inner Ring

In this type of fielding, the fielder’s position is 30 yards away from the batsman. It is the finest position to catch the ball to gain the wicket. The inner ring position stops the ball hitting from the batsman easily.

3. The outfield

Outfield is the position of fielders on the boundary of the circular ground. Fielders try hard to stop the sixes hit by the batsman that can go beyond the boundary. It’s the most largest zone on the cricket ground that covers the rest area other than close catching and the inner ring positions.

Other than this, following some more fielding positions listed as-

1. Wicket Keeper

The wicketkeeper always stands behind the batsman at the end of the pitch to catch the ball hot by the batsman to run out and get the wicket. It’s very important to the position. The usual distance of the wicket-keeper from the batsman is 20 m. It may vary, as it depends on the speed of the bawler.

2. First Slip, Second Slip, and Third Slip

The slip fielders are positioned diagonally from the wicket-keeper back to back so that the run can miss out by an easy drive. Slip fielding positions again play a vital role in catching the ball hit by the batsman. The slip fielders need to concentrate on the game as no one can predict the direction of the coming ball towards them. The captain of the team can remove the second and third slip fielders if the bawler is not so fast and can keep the First slip fielder.

3. Third man

The third man in the position of fielder is behind the slip fielders and can be found near the boundary off the field that saves the ball from going offside on the ground.

4. Gully

The position of the Gully fielder is inside the 30-yard circle. There is a slight difference between the distance of Slip fielders and gully fielders. Gully fielders are diagonally standing beside the slip fielders to catch the ball missed by slip fielders. It’s in close relationship with the slip region on the cricket ground.

The positions that we have tried to understand in the above section are the basic ones. Other than these positions, there are a few others like point, cover, long-off, mid of, long on, mid-on, fine leg, and square leg. All the positions are set by the captain and coach.
