- Aakash Chopra admits Mumbai Indians play their matches at only three other venues no matter what.
As per reports, other teams than Mumbai Indians had recently requested BCCI not to allow the Mumbai Indians team to play at Wankhede Stadium, but BBCI categorically denied the request. The BCCI announced yesterday that the 70 league matches of IPL 2022 will be divided into three venues in Mumbai and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Based on the schedule released, Aakash Chopra told through his YouTube channel that Mumbai Indians have not been kept away from their home ground at all,
“The attempt has been made to give all teams equal matches at the venues. There is a report that an objection was raised by teams that Mumbai should not be given a single match at the Wankhede but that reservation has been kept aside.”
Aakash Chopra further said that “Mumbai Indians is the only team that does not seem to be affected and will not have to change their plans, especially for IPL 2022. Look at what he said,
“They are the only team whose auction strategy is not different for this year and the coming years. Mumbai is the only franchise that is not affected. They will play all their matches here only and next year onwards as well. So, there was a reservation from the franchises.”
The surface of the Wankhede Stadium is known to be a high-scoring ground as it is helpful to the fast bowlers as compared to the spinners. So, keeping that in mind Mumbai Indians usually pack their squad with big batsmen and seam bowlers. Aakash Chopra, however, admitted that it won’t make much difference for the Mumbai Indians as they will be playing at their home turfs as all three venues have the same seam and bounce as the pitch is made of red soil.
“You know what, whether you play at Wankhede or in the neighboring Brabourne or DY Patil – they are all similar kinds of surfaces. All three places have the same red-soil pitches, this is the way it is. One team will actually benefit slightly.”
In his YouTube channel, the former KKR cricketer and now YouTuber has chimed in on the strategies devised by other IPL franchises. He expressed this way because where Mumbai Indians team has the advantage of playing at their home ground this season and will have an edge compared to other teams.
“All other teams thought, of course, this year they will play here but CSK will go to Chennai, Kolkata will go to the Eden Gardens, Delhi to the Arun Jaitley Stadium, think about the Rajasthan Royals – Yuzi Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium. So, they also made their team with that viewpoint.”
