A familiar off day for England

The opening day at the Adelaide Oval was a nightmare for the English team when Joe Buttler dropped the catch of Marnus Labuschagne and that too the second time in the day. Joe’s face (after dropping such catches) had sort of look clear to everyone, the performance was the least on the Australian shore.

It is really unforgiving for the English players and that too in a place where mistakes can be fatal. The execution should on the spot and bottom solid as rock

Truth be told, English players were pretty decent in their jobs even though they just picked two wickets. They were getting an edge several times over there Australian counterpart where stuart was seen beaten in 4 consecutive balls whereas Labuschagne was docked on 20 occasions. The English players were seen maintaining the discipline. England team put all their effort especially Ben stokes, who pounded in the middle of the pitch with all his strength but had no luck getting any wicket.

It was there any criticism, it was about the line and length which was fuller than usually it was. I was seen as a major edge that the English players were missing out. The criticism was same in the year 17/18 in the Ashes tour when they worn out the chances of using the new ball and choosing to bat first and missing their chance to put the Australian team under pressure. It was a different scenario when steve smith won the toss and decided to bat but still they were in pressure but the problem was with the English team where execution was off and that gave an edge or advantage to the Australian team.

There were number of reasons behind it, at least the dropping of catch by Buttler. Labuschagne was got a new life when he was on 21 and second life when he was 95, remaining not out overnight. Keep aside the selection, the tactics and the bowling length criteria but if team starts dropping catches then whatever you try to do it fails and brings down the moral little hope whatever the team is left with. Buttler has been seen improving but to all surprise missed two crucial wickets by not those catches. Fielding especially the catching part is where the English team has to improve upon.

In the ashes played duing 2017/18, it was not a panacea for adding to many varieties in the attack but to choose the right and best bowler you have. At that time, England’s situation was very complicated as Jofra Archer and Olly stone were facing injuries due to which the long planned strategy for the 5 day test didn’t turned out well.

Not properly evaluating the seriousness of the game, the England team felt that they would succeed without the having their two main player in the game, which might possibly the same case again. However, Leach on the other hand deserved a much more backing. The decision to not to pick Wood or any left hand spinner for the attack turned out to be fatal and difference in opinion.
