And the craziest thing is striking a double century in test format. It is not an easy job to hit the ball consistently and score 200 runs in a match. It requires stamina, fitness, and most importantly, the concentration and positive attitude that aims to achieve the difficult goal.
Many veteran and great cricketers have set the records of scoring thousands of runs in all the formats of cricket. But there are very few who hit the ball continuously and scored 200 runs. In this article, we will be focussing on the 7 such debutant batsmen who achieved their dream to strike a double century in Test cricket. Let’s have a look who they are-
1. Tip Foster
Tip Foster is the first cricketer who hit the double century in Test cricket on his debut in 1904. It was a time when the world was on the path to accepting cricket all over the world as a channel of entertainment. The tip was from England and played against Australian cricketers when he scored the double century. It’s a part of great Indian cricket history.
2. Lawrence Rowel
In 1972, it was a Cricket Tour to West Indies for playing test cricket tournament. It was the first experience Lawrence Rowel to play a test match. He was nervous. But when he entered onto the ground, he started playing fearlessly and scored 214 runs. He had played very confidently, despite of being nervous from the inside as it was his first tough test match at hometown England.
3. Brendon Kuruppu
A strong batsman from Sri Lanka Brendon Kuruppu has hit the double century. It was the first time when Kuruppu was playing for a Test cricket match in 1987. Brendon has achieved this success while playing against New Zealand Cricket Team.
4. Devon Conway
A fantastic debut with 214 runs in the first test format was hit by Devon Conway. He is the second player from New Zealand who scored the double century. Devon was a very new and young player when scored his debutant century.
5. Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayer’s is one of the new and upcoming generation’s very talented cricket players who played against Bangladesh. It was the first time when Kyle scored a double century in the recent matches held in the mid of 2021.it was a very surprising and unbelievable game for all the cricket fans. He showed his extraordinary performance on a playground in the fourth innings which is considered to be the toughest innings. Not having enough experience, Kyle scores 210 runs.
6. Jacques Rudolph
Test cricket is the longest format in which cricketer may lose his patients, but Jacque rudolph. He scored 222 runs and was not out till the end of the match. It was an outstanding performance.
7. Matthew Sinclair
A cricketer from New Zealand holds the world record of scoring 214 runs against West Indies in 1996.
