The upcoming ODI and T20 series between India and West Indies is going to be face-to-face. The series will start from February 6, which will be a three-match ODI series. All ODI matches will be held entirely at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, in the T20 series too, three matches will be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata and it will be led by Rohit Sharma. Kieron Pollard will lead the team for West Indies.
Let’s take a look at some of the players who are likely to retire after the series:
Looking at Kumar’s career, he has failed to take wickets consistently. Last year in IPL 2021, he was seen struggling with his form and was not impressive at all. During the recent SA vs. IND ODI series, the pacer (right-arm) wasn’t very successful picking up wickets and was made seated in the last and third ODI Match. He was also overlooked for the IND vs. WI ODI series; however, is part of the team in the T20I series. Hence, Kumar may think of retiring from the ODI format after the IND vs WI series.
Being one of the most impressive and big hitters in the limited overs format. There are mainly two reasons for the player to retire from his cricketing career. The first is age. Layer is 36 years old and has counterparts like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. These two points are considered at most for the player to retire. Even in the bilateral series, Dhawan doesn’t seem to be playing and Ishan Kishan has been picked up as a substitute.
Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been picked for the India vs West Indies series but will probably warm the bench because of Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal. Being one of the top spinners for the Indian team, the cricketer has once been seen sitting for two years and seems to have lost his momentum. He is mostly overlooked for bilateral series and major tournaments with many spinners like Varun Chakraborty, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, and Axar Patel in the queue. Hence, the left-arm spinner may end his ODI career after the IND vs. WI series as the selectors are not giving him enough opportunities. Kuldeep had undergone knee surgery in September last year and after his recovery, the selectors had asked him to play some practice matches in Gurgaon. It is not known whether any of the selection committee tracked him there, but got fit again.
The squad selected for the bilateral series against West Indies is as below:
